Self Care Ideas

A list of my favorite ways to practice self care.




2020 has been a crazy and stressful year. So as we finish it off here is a list of ways to practice self care as we prepare for the holidays.


1) Take a day off or plan a vacation/staycation. Seriously consider it and just do nothing but things that are relaxing and make you happy during that time.


2) Eat healthy, drink water and workout. You might not want to now but you will be glad you drank that green smoothie and went to a pilates class later.


3) Talk to a friend or therapist. It is great for your mental health to work out your issues with another person who can give wise counsel or a new perspective, or just be a sounding board for you to vent and get it off your chest.


4) Hang out with friends.


5) Volunteer. I realize this doesn't seem like self care, however it can be. Volunteering and focusing on helping other people is one of the best ways to get your mind off yourself and to feel good. Generosity is a bigger mood booster than receiving.


6) Get rid of the toxic people and situations in your life. This can be quick like breaking up with a good for nothing boyfriend or more of along term goal like finding a new job.


7) Sleep in. It effects every area of your life. To feel better and live your best life, get more sleep.


8) Buy yourself flowers. They are $4 at Publix!


9) Look at the stars.


10) Do something creative like sew, paint or play an instrument.


11) Light a candle in a scent you love.


12) Eat dessert.


13) Buy that thing you have been eyeing for a while.


14) Read a book or magazine.


15) Watch a sunset or sunrise.


16) Dress up fancy and go out somewhere, like a nice restaurant you have been wanting to try just for fun.


17) Spend time at the beach, mountains, in a garden, or somewhere in nature.


18) Write a letter or email to an old friend. Or write a gratitude letter to someone who changed your life for the better and send it to them, even if you haven't seen them in years.


19) Sing at the top of your lungs, dance around your house and have fun!


20) Have a spa day. Get a massage, your hair done, wear a sheet mask or get a mani/pedi (even if you do it yourself). Taking care of yourself is important for your self esteem.
